Root  คือ  รากศัพท์หรือคำหลักที่มีความหมายและไม่สามารถแบ่งแยกให้เล็กลงได้อีก

Suffix   คือ  คำศัพท์ที่ใช้เติมข้างหน้าของรากศัพท์หรือคำหลักแล้วมีความหมาย

1. Noun Suffix  คือ คำนามที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นมา ซึ่งแบ่งเป็น 2 พวกใหญ่ๆ คือ
      - คำนามที่แสดงตัวผู้กระทำ (denoting an agent) ซึ่งถูกสร้างมาจาก Suffix ดังต่อไปนี้
-ant / -ent / - ar / -er / -ard /-eer / -ess / - ier / -yer / -ian / -ist / -or / -ster / -monger  ใช้เติมหลังคำกริยาหรือคำนาม , adj เพื่อให้เป็น นามผู้กระทำการเท่านั้น
      - คำนามที่แสดงตัวผู้รับการกระทำ (denoting the receiver of an action) -ee / -ite / -ive

2.Verb Suffix คือ คำกริยาที่สร้างมาจาก Suffix อันได้แก่ -ate / -en / -fy / -ise / -ize

3. Adjective Suffix  คือ คำคุณศพท์ที่เกิดจากการเติม Suffix ต่อไปนี้โดยจะแยกเป็นกลุ่ม ๆ คือ
       3.1  -able / -ble / -ile = สามารถ
       3.2  -ac / -al / -an / -ary / -ic / -ical = เกี่ยวกับ
       3.3  -acious / -ant / -ent / -ative = มีแนวโน้มที่จะ
       3.4  -ful / -os / -ous / -olent = เต็มไปด้วย

4.Suffix กลุ่มอื่นๆที่น่าสนใจ
       4.1 "เหมือน ราวกับ"  -ile / -ish / -like / -y
       4.2 "บอกถึงสถานที่"   -ary / -ery / -ory / -orium / -arium
